Copper, an orange-reddish metal, has been closely linked to the divine. In ancient Mesopotamian times, it was associated with the Queen of Heaven and also with goddesses
linked to the planet Venus. These include Ishtar, Astarte, and perhaps Inanna, the supreme predecessor of the first two mentioned deities.
It was also consecrated to the Sun in Babylon and for the ancient inhabitants of the Pacific Northwest (U.S.).
