About the book

Israel Regardie is one of the most respected occultists of the 20th century. His knowledge is immortalized in his various literary works, including Hermetic Magic – The Tree of Life and The Golden Dawn – The Dawn of the Golden Age, both published in Brazil by Madras Editora. What not everyone knows is that Regardie also worked for many years as a psychotherapist and during this time he made notable observations through direct contact with his patients.

He recounts that throughout his professional life, what impressed him most was the realization that when people reached a state where they could release their unconscious muscular tension, they experienced great joy and pleasure in the relaxation of their body and psyche. This led them to spontaneously develop entirely new attitudes in their lives, particularly regarding religion and prayer.

He explains that they did not need guidance, preparation, or training, as everything was simply inherent to them. For this reason, Regardie decided to include his experience in this work, which deals with healing energy, prayer, and relaxation.

Biography

Israel Regardie is British, born on November 17, 1907, into a poor family of Jewish immigrants. In his youth, he moved to Washington, United States. He studied art in Washington and Philadelphia.

He acquired a linguistic knowledge that was crucial for his later studies of Hermetic Qabalah. He was one of the most important occultists of the 20th century. He was also a great scholar, particularly interested in Theosophy, Hindu philosophy, and yoga, as well as Rosicrucian principles.

He gained significant knowledge in the Golden Dawn (Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn), where he was Aleister Crowley's personal secretary at the age of 21 in 1928, while also integrating the teachings he received there with his intellectual and theurgical experiences.

In 1932, at the age of 24, he published his bold work titled The Tree of Life, considered by many as his masterpiece, which focused on magic, a taboo subject at the time.

Regardie died on March 10, 1985, at the age of 77.
