MEANING OF THE TURKISH EYE

", "

Its Turkish name for protection against the evil eye and jealousy is nazar boncuk (Nazar-evil eye, boncuk-amulet). The Turkish Eye is often called the Eye of Fatima, named after the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, and it is combined with the Fatima Hand amulet to enhance its effects. Although it can have various patterns and be applied in different designs, the Turkish Eye is typically composed of a dark blue circle, sphere, or drop shape with a white and light blue eye overlay. The Turkish Eye amulet appeared during the development of glassmaking in the Mediterranean around the 16th century BC. Legend has it that fair-haired blue-eyed men could be malevolent and could send negative vibrations through their gaze. When the Turkish Eye breaks or cracks, it has fulfilled its protective function and must be replaced.
