jadeite – medium

Jadeite – medium is a pyroxene mineral and one of the two types of pure jade. The other is known as nephrite. In its purest form, jadeite is the rarer of the two and consequently more valuable. The most valuable form of jadeite is an impressive emerald green known as “imperial jadeite”.

The history of jadeite dates back thousands of years when it was used to make tools and weapons due to its durability. Jadeite was highly valued by the Mayans and Aztecs. In fact, the name “jade” originates from the Spanish term “piedra de ijada,” meaning “stone for pain in the side.” It was named this way after Spanish explorers noticed that Central American natives held pieces of jade to their sides to cure ailments. In Chinese, jade is known as “yu,” which means “Celestial” or “Imperial.” Therefore, this stone is considered the imperial and most precious gem in Chinese culture.

This stone weighs approximately 10/20 grams and is about 2/3 cm long. The explanation of the stone and its color is merely indicative of common practices associated with this stone. This explanation is not restrictive or limiting, as there may be many more interpretations and uses for each stone and each color. The actual colors and dimensions of the stones may differ from what is presented on your screen due to perspective and photographic editing. Each stone is unique in its size, characteristics, and colors, so the photographs provided only give a general idea of each type and category of stone.
