Brief history of Saint Anthony: Although there is limited information about Saint Anthony's birth date, it is traditionally believed to be August 15, 1195. Saint Anthony passed away on June 13, 1231, in Padua, which led him to be widely known as Saint Anthony of Padua. Initially a Franciscan friar at the Convent of São Vicente de Fora in Lisbon, he later moved to Coimbra's Convent of Santa Cruz to deepen his religious and ecclesiastical studies. Invited by Saint Francis of Assisi, Saint Anthony became a key figure in the establishment of the Franciscan Order and its spread across Europe. He spent some time in Bologna before being transferred to Padua, where he eventually died. During his life, he taught at several French and Italian universities, becoming one of the most respected figures in the Catholic Church and one of the first Doctors of the Church. Known for his theological and intellectual prowess as well as his eloquence and miraculous abilities, Saint Anthony's fame and sanctity led to his canonization shortly after his death. His great veneration and respect elevate him to one of the greatest saints in the Church. Miracles associated with Saint Anthony include: During a sermon before clergy, cardinals, and the Pope on various theological issues, each person heard his discourse in their native language. On several occasions, poison was placed in his food, but Saint Anthony, ignoring the danger, made the sign of the cross and ate without being harmed. He restored a leg to an amputee. To prove the presence of God in the Eucharist, a three-day-starved mule ignored its oats to kneel before a host shown by Saint Anthony. He protected a crowd from rain during one of his sermons. He restored a field of ripe wheat that had been destroyed by a following crowd. By miracle, he resurrected a murdered man to swear the innocence of an unjustly condemned person. The Child Jesus helped him cross a river.
